Haunted is a chain physics puzzle game with a fantasy theme aimed at casual gamers. Players find themselves deep in a dungeon they need to escape from and find treasures by creating chain links between objects on a map. Developed by Tuliotus Ltd, it is the first mobile application funded by AppCampus to be released to the Windows Phone Store. The app is released on Windows Phone 7 and 8 with two versions; a free trial, and a full version of the game priced at 2,00€.
“High quality user experience and use of logic is what sets us apart from many games in a similar genre”, says Kimo Boissonier, CEO of Tuliotus. “This is not a traditional dungeon game, where you solve conflict with weapons. Instead, the player makes creative use of chains, torches, iron balls and anything else he finds to complete the puzzle. Light keeps you safe from some monsters, others are drawn to the blazing fires of your torch. A rich game play emerges from these simple elements”.
The release of the app marks the start of AppCampus’ stream of apps that will cover diverse areas of business and life. The program started operations in May, and has already attracted more than 1500 applications from 85 different countries and more are coming in daily. So far 60 submissions have been accepted, 25 % in games category, 15 % in education and 10 % in entertainment.
“Games represent more than 50% of global app revenues, which is why we are very pleased to address this part of the playing field first”, says Pekka Sivonen, Head of AppCampus. “Haunted is a great example of innovation and creativity combined with quality that AppCampus propagates. This is only the beginning: once we get the pipeline going, we’ll be publishing exciting new apps on Windows Phone on an almost weekly basis.”
AppCampus was created in collaboration with Aalto University, Microsoft and Nokia. Both of the corporations pledged to invest together up to 18 million euros over the next three years to fund unique, innovative and high impact mobile apps that utilize Windows Phone and additionally other Nokia platforms. Aalto University offers its expertise in managing the program and in coaching the start-ups. During the next three years the program will release an estimate of 700 apps with a strong emphasis on high quality and innovation of services. The program does not take equity or commission from the investment.
Apart from investing 20,000 – 70,000 euros per project, AppCampus also supports the admitted applicants with world-class training, coaching and marketing as well as a marketplace qualification process. Tuliotus Ltd was one of the teams that participated in the four week pilot training and coaching camp, AppCademy, where the teams got extensive training in development, design excellence, pitching, and other workshops.
