In breaking its own record for the number of companies registered in one month, Manchester has also broken through the significant milestone of 1,000 companies registered in one month for the first time.
A total of 1,033 new Limited companies were created with a registered office address in Manchester during the month of March. That smashes the previous high of 934 companies registered in February 2012 and 919 back in March 2007.
Managing Director of Duport, Peter Valaitis said: “Whilst journalists and politicians perpetuate stories about doom and decline, it’s clear that the people of Manchester remain motivated and mobilised. They are letting their entrepreneurial spirit shine during a time when the country needs it most.”
The results for Manchester also contribute to the Greater Manchester figures which experienced its third highest month ever for official company registrations with a total of 2114.
As well as new start up companies, more large corporations are taking an interest in the benefits of moving their bases out of London, to cheaper, more suitable cities in the North.
With the BBC’s new Salford base now up and running and more programmes being moved there, it seems that the investment made in the area could be fuelling a new rise in entrepreneurship in Greater Manchester.
But the BBC aren’t the only company looking to the Manchester area for new opportunities, as The Manchester Office Agents Forum announce that take-up of office space in the city has increased by 36% in the first quarter of 2012.
With the record for new company formations in Manchester broken in both February and March 2012, it certainly seems that Manchester is enjoying a sustained boom in new business.
