Wernick Event Hire have provided an innovative solution for Bath Rugby with the implementation of high-quality, quick-to-dismantle seating and facilities and, with this in mind, it looks to be a mud-free season – for the spectators at least.

With the beginning of the 2012 premiership season in September, rugby teams throughout the country began preparing for seven months of rugby mania. Bath Rugby, one of Britain’s longest-running professional rugby union teams, was no exception. For such a dedicated and growing fan base, Bath Rugby wanted only the best in seating and toilet facilities for their fans during the rugby season and approached Wernick Event Hire regarding such a solution.

However, the area they play on is not solely used by Bath Rugby. Made a charitable trust in 2002, the ‘Rec’ (as it is commonly known) is overseen by the Recreation Trust, and is only leased to the club for the duration of the season. The lease insists that whatever seating facilities Bath Rugby construct, they need to be removed, and the ground reinstated, within a short space of time before the beginning of the cricket season. This meant creating effective high-capacity seating and facilities that could be quickly dismantled before the summer, leaving the Rec in perfect condition ready to become a cricket pitch.

Bath Rugby approached Wernick Event Hire Limited, a West-Midlands based company with depots throughout the country, who were able to design and construct a solution. They managed to maximise facilities and utilise the space by constructing a new East Stand that hosted 5,435 fans, along with various other covered and uncovered stands, with toilet facilities and refreshments in the void beneath the stands brought in by Wernick’s local event hire branch. This meant that they could not only maximise the number of seats, but also improve the number and quality of facilities to further enhance the spectator experience. As well as the 5,435 seat East Stand and covered/uncovered seating, Wernick implemented a Thatcher’s standing terrace that could accommodate 1,940 supporters. Not only this, the space under the terrace was similarly put to excellent use, providing three additional bar areas. Another grandstand with facilities for the disabled and an ease of access walkway meant that every one of Bath Rugby’s fans were looked after.

Wernick Event Hire’s spectator stands will continue to accommodate thousands of visitors until May 3, which is when the 2012-2013 rugby season comes to a close. At this point, Wernick will be able to easily deconstruct and remove their facilities from the grounds in time for preparation for the cricket season, which begins in mid-April. Until then, the rugby season continues, and crowds continue to unfailingly fill up the seats for each match. Now that there are facilities for everybody, hopefully Bath Rugby’s support, and success, will continue to grow.
