Persimmon calls in Plastic Surgeon for stone repairs at York headquarters
Devon, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 12 December 2013 -- Stone repairs and restoration were required at Persimmon’s corporate offices in York, in a building which dates from 1820. Persimmon, a top six developer, has a national agreement with Plastic Surgeon, so their property maintenance people sought the cosmetic repair specialist’s advice on possible restoration strategies.
The building is constructed from local sandstone. Long term exposure to wind, rain and frost had left the stone portico with its multiple layers of masonry paint, in poor condition. Areas had been eroded, and chunks spalled off by frost while layers of masonry paint had blistered and peeled, with water causing further damage. Inside the entrance was in surprisingly bad condition.
After an assessment by Plastic Surgeon’s North East Regional Manager, a plan of repair work was agreed, and work commenced. Initially, two of Plastic Surgeon’s Finishers brushed, scraped and sanded back the old paint, in order to get back to a solid substrate before any repairs could be made.
Then the areas of stone which had been cut back were filled using Plastic Surgeon’s premium stone repair product in its base colour; building back the deeper areas in layers to stabilize the work. Filled slightly proud of the original profile, the material was then sanded flush with the old sandstone masonry.
To complete the transformation, the Finishers Screedcoated the entire portico in a matching colour, using rollers and brushes for the detail areas. Finally an authentic texture was achieved by over-spraying the Screedcoat with specially graded silica.
