Better Bathrooms Raises £13,000 for The Christie
(PRWEB UK) 13 December 2013 -- Over the past 12 months, Better Bathrooms have been raising money for The Christie and today are proud to announce an incredible £13,000 has been raised.
The fundraising activities started at last year’s Christmas party, where staff members bought raffle tickets for a chance to win a host of donated prizes, including an iPad. Following this, charity buckets were displayed in all the Showrooms and the Trade Counter plus internal donations – the generosity of Better Bathrooms customers and staff members is overwhelming.
Better Bathrooms chose The Christie as their charity of the year, through their banking relationship with Barclays Bank PLC. A member of Barclays relationship team was heavily involved in the Elise For Life campaign, a challenge to raise £1m for The Christie over 3 years, and from that Better Bathrooms decided it was a campaign they would love to support. The Elise For Life campaign recently came to a close raising £1.175m in less than 3 years, and both companies are proud to be a part of this amazing achievement.
The Christie has been pioneering cancer research breakthroughs for over 100 years and is the largest cancer centre in Europe. Treating more than 40,000 patients each year, they were the first UK centre to be officially accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre. Based in Manchester, with radiotherapy centres in Oldham and Salford, they are a national specialist treating 25% of patients from around the country.
Colin Stevens, MD and founder of http://www.betterbathrooms.com, said: “Fighting cancer is very important and I am so humbled by the generosity of my staff and our customers. The amount of money we’ve raised will help The Christie to continue their amazing work and help save lives.”
Natalie Pike, Corporate Development Manager for The Christie, added: “Everyone at The Christie would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and customers at Better Bathrooms for all their hard work. Without support from amazing companies and people like you all we simply would not be able to carry on support the vital work that we do.”
The money raised by Better Bathrooms will be split between Melanoma research, and the new Clinical Trials Unit at The Christie. Melanoma accounts for about 3 percent of skin cancer cases but causes most skin cancer deaths. Whilst there is some groundbreaking research into cancer drugs to help patients with advanced melanoma, there is still a lot of work to do. The new Clinical Trials Unit supports research studies, to find new and better treatments, interventions, diagnostic procedures and ways of preventing cancer.
