A clear head and the ability to recognise its momentary absence in one’s self and others is a key skill in becoming an effective leader
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 22 February 2013
Cortex Consulting, a London based executive coaching firm, owned and operated by Barry Florin announces the launch of a new informative website: http://www.cortexuk.com
The new website offers the reader a brief introduction to the growing field of executive coaching. Florin is a Certified Master Coach from the Behavioural Coaching Institute and a Founding Fellow of the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Affiliate. Barry Florin believes that the website will aid companies who are considering the use of executive coaching as a leadership tool.
Executive coaching deals with “soft skills”, the inter-personnel skills that determine how far a person will rise within an organisation. Soft skills are differentiated from technical skill; some examples of technical skills are: computer programming, financial accounting, graphic design, car repair and building maintenance, all valuable skills that don’t require leadership abilities.
It is important to understand that a coach does not work with a person to improve technical skills; coaching is about developing leadership skills.
There are several important elements of executive coaching covered on the new website.
Emotional intelligence is almost always a key factor in determining an individual’s career success as it can count for 58% of their leadership ability. Among the areas covered in the section on Emotional Intelligence are Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management.
Stress takes its toll on everybody. Modern day life is stressful. The Stress Response is an evolutionary biological and physical response that exists to keep all living creatures alive. Unfortunately people’s bodies and emotions react to everyday frustrations in the same way they would as if their lives were actually at risk. A clear head and the ability to recognise its momentary absence in one’s self and others is a key skill in becoming an effective leader.
Behavioural change is what coaching is all about; corporate change originates from successful personal change. There are many accepted ways of learning the things that executives need to work on, but knowing what they need to work on and being able to bring it about are two different things.
Executive coaching is not for everyone in an organisation. It can be of great benefit to high potentials and to people who have reached the C-suite through their technical performance. It can also be of great help to dysfunctional teams who have lost their way. The new website covers a variety of these situations.
