Discover the Secret of Smailholm Mains Cottages
(PRWEB UK) 4 July 2013 -- Smailholm Mains Cottages Available During the 2013 European Qualifying Tour and 2013 Scottish Boys Stroke Play in Kelso.
The 2013 European Qualifying Tour and 2013 Scottish Boys Stroke Play is coming to Kelso!
With the International golf competition coming to the area, as well as the many events planned over the Summer by the Borders Union. Kelso is going to be the hub of the Scottish Borders in 2013. Smailholm Mains Cottages are close to the activity without being too close. In fact they are the perfect retreat.
Two gems in the heart of Smailholm, where there is as much, or as little to do, as is desired.
Golf, shooting, fishing, horse riding, cycling, walking, bird watching, sight-seeing and relaxing all in abundance.
The two cosy holiday homes, Jocks Cottage and Craggs Cottage can be found on a working farm within the splendour of the Scottish Borders where the idyllic countryside is as far as the eye can see and where the unwinding can begin. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottages and with 600 acres of farm to explore, pets will love Smailholm just as much their owner.
With a warm welcome upon arrival, take a look at the welcome pack full of information about all of the activities and events in and around the Borders area. With details as to how to engage in one or many of these activities, this could be the hardest choice to be made throughout the entire break.
The Roxburghe Golf Course is this year to host a stage of the European Tour Qualifying School and 2013 Scottish Boys Stroke Play. This annual competition enables professional golfers gain a place on the European Tour. Why not come and play a round of golf on this Championship Course and see the challenges the professionals will face first hand.
Kick back and relax taking in the grandeur of the countryside, visit the historical sites, some of which, (with some energy), could be within walking/cycling distance of the accommodation. Visit Smailholm Tower, one of only a few remaining peel towers still standing from the 16th century, as seen on BBC's Countryfile before its restoration. From the top, the most outstanding vistas can be enjoyed. It is now complete with roof and was short-listed for a national award. Engage in person with this spectacular building set amidst stunning countryside.
Smailholm Pottery showcases the work of local artists and also exhibits their interesting furniture pieces as well as contemporary jewellery made by a local silversmith and jeweller. The cottages also provide a close proximity for day visits to Mellerstain House and gardens popularly regarded as the “Jewel of Stately Homes,” built in the late 18th century, where lots of events and exhibitions also take place throughout the year. Approximately 6miles from Smailholm is the market town of Kelso with more history, architecture and shopping for all tastes.
If fishing, where better than the banks of the River Tweed. Kelso is actually on the banks of the Tweed River but there are also the Rivers Teviot and Eden running through the Borders. Kirsty, the host, can point out the right direction for fishing equipment and permits or if fully prepped, for picnic supplies.
Whether planning a family retreat, an artistic getaway, a sporting adventure, wildlife watching or perhaps a little bit of each, look no further than Smailholm Mains Holiday Cottages. ‘Excellent hospitality through attention to the little details’ is the motto here at Smailholm Mains Cottages. Getting things right for guests and offering a true home from home experience, with all the facilities needed to enjoy a holiday and allowing each guest to relax in comfort.
“Midweek away trip (golfing)”
There were 8 of us staying in the 2 cottages. The cottages were beautifully presented with all we needed for an enjoyable stay. Lovely and cosy for a relaxing evening after days out. We will be back.-Christine, Lancaster
