‘Health Watchdogs warn Bolton Hospital that patients are at risk from Hospital Acquired Infections’ Asons Solicitors Comment.
(PRWEB UK) 2 July 2013 -- This week the Bolton News has reported on a call to action from health watchdogs, directed at the cleanliness of Bolton Hospital. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out an on the spot inspection, the results of which raised concerns that patients were at risk from Hospital Acquired Infections.
Collated in response to worries that standards were not being met, the CQC report detailed that patients were not always protected from the risk of infection (1). This risk has been attributed to hygiene protocol guidelines not being adhered to; according to the Bolton News, Bolton Hospital failed on three out of five measures.
The CQC stated that the Bolton Hospital’s infection control committee was particularly poorly attended, which meant that staff were not always led on hygiene protocols; this was considered to be a ‘Significant Risk’ by inspectors (1).
Overall, the report concluded that staffing levels were inadequate. With the report stating the following (1):
“The conclusion of the review had demonstrated not all wards and departments had the appropriate skill mix or numbers of staff to fully meet the needs of patients and to provide adequate cover for sickness and absence.”
Asons Executive, Laura Williams, commented on the article as follows –
“Looking at this report it seems clear that the decline in hygiene standards can be linked to staff shortages. Had the staffing levels been adequate, those working in the hospital would be under less pressure and they could have dedicated time to following protocols.
"If you are in hospital, either due to illness or injury, it’s likely you have experienced enough disruption within your life. Yet, the risk of a hospital acquired infection is still an on-going issue, as demonstrated in the Royal Bolton Hospital CQC reports.
"Contracting a further illness during a hospital stay, which could have been easily prevented by following hygiene protocols, simply shouldn’t happen; it is tantamount to medical negligence.”
In the event that you consider yourself to have been subject to a hospital acquired infection, you must seek legal advice as quickly as possible. Taking action can prevent the same situation from reoccurring, helping others to avoid injury in future.
If you, or someone you know, have suffered, then you may be able to make medical negligence claim for compensation. Asons Solicitors deal with medical negligence claims on a regular basis, you can contact them on: 0844 850 1062 or you can fill out their claim form at http://www.asons.co.uk
