The Alliance of Independent Authors petitions booksellers, libraries and literary festivals to Open Up To Indie Authors
London, LONDON (PRWEB UK) 17 July 2013 -- As more self published and independent writers produce work of real value to their readers, The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) is calling on the book industry to allow their voices to be heard with an "Open Up to Indie Authors" petition.
Addressed to national booksellers associations, libraries and festival organisers, the petition highlights the challenges faced by author-publishers in ensuring exposure and inclusion.
With a target of 10,000 signatures, the petition aims to be one of the largest its kind, galvanising a rapidly expanding community of writers keen to step out from the sidelines into their rightful place in the books industry.

Orna Ross, Director of ALLi, said "While recognising that there are challenges in incorporating author-publishers, it has become a necessity, if book stores, libraries and literary festivals and events are to be inclusive of writers and properly serve readers."
In recognition of those challenges, ALLi is preparing a guidebook of advice and suggestions for institutions and authors themselves, to help facilitate a fair and mutually beneficial relationship.
The petition is just one part of ALLi's "Open Up to Indie Authors" campaign, a varied and ongoing series of initiatives, aiming to encourage literary prizes, festivals, events, media, reviewers and others to find ways to include self-published work. The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) is a nonprofit, professional association for author-publishers. Rapidly growing, with members all over the world, ALLi (http://allianceindependentauthors.org) is now a significant force in international publishing.
