Sport news website golf.co.uk to offer live coverage of the 2013 US PGA Championship
(PRWEB UK) 9 August 2013 -- The US PGA Golf championship returns to the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York for the first time since 2003. Oak Hill is a course notorious for tight fairways and unforgiving rough, which could pose a number of problems for this years competitors.
In five previous championships held at the club, only five players have managed to break par. After playing a practice round this week, Tiger Woods has already voiced complaints regarding the speed of the greens. He stated “They don’t have much thatch to them, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do for the tournament and how much they’re able to speed them up with kind of a lack of grass, I’m sure the greens aren’t as good as they’d like them to be”.
Woods goes into the tournament as hot favourite according to William Hill at 9/2 following a masterful performance at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last week and will be looking to break his majors duck, having been unsuccessful since the 2008 tour. Defending champion Rory McIlroy has been given little chance by many due to recent poor form. However, he will be looking to bounce back in the final major of the year. Other major contenders include 2013 US Open Champion Justin Rose, 2013 Masters Champion Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson who has posted five top three finishes in his last seven starts.
Head of Operations at DSG and Golf.co.uk, Matthew Tait had this to say “I’m looking forward to seeing how Rory McIlroy bounces back from numerous disappointing performances this year. However, you cannot ignore Tiger Woods following his performances in the Bridgestone International. He is without doubt the favourite, but the pressure of claiming his first title since 2008 could prove too much”.
The majors are always exciting as they are so difficult to predict. After both the 2013 Masters and US Open were not won by the favourites, it would be no surprise if we were to see the same again at Oak Hill”.
