Tim Whyte New Managing Director for SAPINDA Group and Head of the Resource Investment Division as of January 2014

Sapinda co-founder Lars Windhorst has become new Chairman of the group. The resources investments of Sapinda in agriculture and food processing, mining and oil & gas are core holdings of the group and will continue to substantially grow in asset size, revenues and profitability in the coming years.
Tim Whyte will focus on supporting the growth of our portfolio companies, the development of our investment strategy in the resources/commodities sector and the development and expansion of our investment risk management function for our investments in the resources and commodities sector.
Tim Whyte is 39 years old and has spent his whole professional career in the commodities and resources area as an investment manager, trader and analyst. Tim has a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and 20 years of experience across all asset classes in commodities and resources and an annualized investment track record of 16.5% as a portfolio manager and investor.
Tim started his career trading commodities in 1995 at Goldman Sachs in London (J. Aron) before joining Enron in 1999 to trade energy. In 2003 he joined Sofaer Capital Global Research as a Senior Research Analyst and trader for the Sofaer Global Equity Hedge Fund focusing on natural resources and EMEA sectors. In 2005 that fund was the Winner of the EuroHedge Global Equity Fund award.
In 2005 Tim Whyte founded and ran the Sofaer Capital Natural Resources Fund, the top survey-ranked global resource and commodity hedge fund from 2006 to 2008 with over 1bn US$ assets under management. He was a board member of several resource companies both public and private.
In 2008 Tim joined Brevan Howard Asset Management, the largest Hedge fund firm in Europe with 30bn US$ under management. He ran the successful resource equity strategy at Brevan Howard from 2008 till 2010.
From 2011 till 2013 Tim Whyte ran his own resource focused hedge fund.
Tim Whyte is now based in the London office.
