Lawyer lends a hand to the SIA Licensing Authority by training door supervisors in verbal judo.
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 26 February 2014 -- In an effort to reduce violence in London's nightlife, former door-supervisor turned lawyer, Darren Lee, released a book last year specifically for security personnel to train them in verbal de-escalation techniques.
In his career spanning over a decade working the doors, Lee realized the importance of being able to avoid conflict with the use of verbal judo and other non-physical techniques. Having left the nightlife security world behind, Lee went on to become a successful commercial litigation lawyer and further developed his verbal conflict resolution skills. However, he is disappointed to see door supervisors on the front line facing conflict every night of the week not able to handle themselves verbally and thus increasing the risk of violence not only upon themselves but the patrons they are paid to protect.
Lee supports efforts by the SIA Licensing Authority to educate door supervisors on the importance of verbal skills in dealing with confrontational situations but feels much more needs to be done to reduce violence in the industry.
Echoing this view is veteran old school doorman and author Geoff Thompson who has termed Lee's book, 101 Tips on How to Be a Bouncer: Techniques to Handle Situations Without Violence, "[t]he door bible for a new age."
