MEF Experts Evaluated the Situation in Ukraine and Said What Should the Crimea Do
Moscow, Russia (PRWEB UK) 26 March 2014 -- Experts from Moscow Economic Forum presented their views on the political crisis in Ukraine and Crimea’s movement towards independence. "To enable the Crimea to develop, it is also necessary to change the economic policy in Russia," Konstantin Babkin, the co-chair of the MEF, the president of the Novoye Sodruzhestvo Industrial Union, believes. According to the industrialist, liberal economists throw a scare upon the Russians with their talk on the enormous amount of money to be spent on the Crimea, which supposedly would be a black hole for the budget. “And they are trying to scare us with sanctions and losses. This is a malicious distortion of the real picture. The Crimea really should not and will not be a black hole. This is a great platform for business, development, comfortable life,” Babkin said emphatically.
“For more than 20 years, the dominant trend in our country was what Yevgeny Primakov once called neoliberalism. It is this trend, this development direction that has long been an obstacle for the further development of our country,” the expert said. According to the MEF co-chair, a forum to be held from March, 26 to March, 27 will provide an excellent platform for discussion, enrichment and development of ideas on the new economic policy.
Co-chair of the MEF says the reaction of the Russian government to the crisis in Ukraine is generally right. But the problem is that the neo-liberals cannot offer any clear development programs for the Crimea. “We have abandoned lands in the Moscow Region, and half of the food we have is imported, and we have 40 million hectares of abandoned land, and it is quite difficult to offer the Crimea some ways for development in this context and within the existing ideology,” Babkin emphasized. He expressed the hope that the situation in Ukraine, and with the Crimea in particular, will lead to the change of existing ideology in Russia. “The new ideology advocated by MEF participants and initiators will facilitate the development of the Crimea and Russia,” Konstantin Babkin concluded and invited everyone to participate in the Forum.
To recap, Moscow Economic Forum is an international expert platform for the development of strategic solutions and crisis management programs designed to change the economic policy in Russia. In 2013, MEF was held for the first time. The idea of organizing the Forum brought together representatives of the Russian industry, science and education. The Co-Chairmen of the International Committee of the Forum were Victor Sadovnichiy, academician of the RAS and the rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University; Ruslan Grinberg, Director of the Institute of Economics of RAS; Konstantin Babkin, a well-known Russian industrialist. In 2014, the Forum will be held from March, 26 to March, 27 at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and will become one of the most important economic events of the year.
