Gas Connection Experts 1Gas Shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year at Utility Week Stars Awards
(PRWEB UK) 24 April 2014 -- 1Gas, the gas connection experts based in Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, is proud to announce the company has been shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year at the Utility Week Stars Awards. This is a new awards scheme set up to recognise the people behind the utility industry, rather than the companies, highlighting their contribution to delivering vital services to homes and businesses.
The apprentice from 1Gas shortlisted for the award is Derry Mulloy, who joined the company in June 2012 from BHTA College in Hove and was one of the first employees to join the company. His role as a Gas Connections Consultant has been fundamental to the company’s continued growth and achievements.
Derry started a 1 year apprenticeship at the company through Brighton & Hove Training Academy and achieved an NVQ in Business Administration. During this time, he played a vital role in managing orders, training new staff members and working with suppliers. He has also been a first point of contact for customer queries and has contributed significantly to 1Gas’s trebling of sales and turnover in the past year.
Richard Hearne, Director of 1Gas, said: “Derry has been a wonderful addition to the 1Gas team and been instrumental to providing our customers with the highest standard of service. Although he has been very busy and great at getting orders, he has not let customer service suffer as a result. In fact, he has been instrumental to our achievement of approximately 150 testimonials from happy customers on our website, something unheard of in the gas connections industry.”
Derry commented on his nomination: “This is a wonderful honour and highlights the fantastic work being done by the entire team at 1Gas. In the future, I would like to become a manager and have a team of cadets with 1Gas! I also hope to help 1Gas expand as a company as we diversify into other sectors of the industry.”
Commenting on apprenticeships, Richard Hearne added: “Derry is a great example of how apprenticeships can work effectively for both employers and employees. Although Derry found time keeping slightly difficult at the start, this is something that has been easily rectified. He is now deservedly recognised as a pivotal member of the 1Gas team. On the basis of this, we will continue to invest in apprenticeships and would recommend this option to other companies.”
The winners of the Apprentice of the Year award will be selected by a team of expert judges on Friday 13 June at Lancashire County Cricket Club.
