Cosmedics’ Director Calls for ‘End of Summer Skin Checks’ for Changing Moles
London (PRWEB UK) 27 August 2014 -- Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, is one of the UK’s leading authorities on mole removal, having removed thousands in his surgical career.
Committed to raising awareness of the importance of mole checking, this year he has called for the UK to carry out an ‘end of summer skin check’ to identify any unusual moles.
Dr Perry MBBS explains:
“With a cool and damp end to the summer of 2014, it is easy to forget that we had a better than average June and July, with warm temperatures seeing Brits adopting a much more Mediterranean outdoors lifestyle.”
“Additional sun exposure always feels good at the time, but is known to put the skin at increased risk of deadly melanoma. This is especially relevant when people are tempted to take short snatches of sun without applying any sun protection cream; for example, a quick lunch in the park instead of at the desk or an impromptu garden party.”
“Before the winter layers go on for good, now is the perfect time to check for any new, changing or unusual moles and I urge everybody to spend half an hour carrying out a full mole screening.”
Dr Perry advises an extensive head to toe check. Even parts of the body that never see the sun should be included – the scalp, soles of the feet and areas covered by underwear should all be reviewed, looking for the ‘ugly duckling’ sign of moles that just aren’t like the others. They may be irregular shaped, have an indistinct border, unusual dark colour, large diameter or be changing in some way.
Dr Perry says:
“It is important to trust your instinct. Our advice is always ‘if in doubt, check it out’. Any mole causing concern should be seen by a professional as soon as possible. If your doctor has any concerns, they will refer patients very quickly to a specialist for proper assessment and removal if necessary.”
Cosmedics doctors offer a full body mole check service, carried out by trained and experienced private mole removal doctors. Their UK-accredited doctors will thoroughly inspect all areas of the body in order to check for any suspicious moles and make a full report for future reference. This confidential ‘skin health MOT’ can be an invaluable way of putting patients’ mind at rest and is especially recommended after prolonged sun exposure.
Any moles that are deemed to be suspicious can be removed quickly – usually at the same appointment – and full testing is included to rule out any issues for full peace of mind. Cosmedics’ Aesthetic Doctors are all trained in mole removal, offering a choice of popular laser mole removal with minimal scarring, shave excision with no stitches required or mole removal surgery by ellipse excision for the largest lesions.
