SDDC adopts Elixir Software’s iTraX for International Chemistry Collaborations
Cheshire (PRWEB UK) 16 April 2015 -- Elixir Software Ltd, the leading provider of scientific work scheduling and workflow management solutions and services, today announced a partnership deal with Toronto based SDDC for use of its cloud-based platform, iTraX. SDDC will use iTraX with its consortium members in collaborative pursuit of tuberculosis and malaria medicines.
The Structure-guided Drug Discovery Coalition (SDDC), is an international collaboration of academic and industrial scientists coordinated by the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) at the University of Toronto. Its mandate is to create pharma-quality starting-points from structure-based drug design, which can be developed into the essential new medicines required for tuberculosis and malaria. SDDC operates a highly collaborative discovery model, where over nine institutions actively work together through cross-functional ‘virtual’ teams towards common goals, and receiving up-to-date advice from the world’s leading disease experts.
SDDC spokesman, Chris Walpole (Program Director) said, "ChemTraX (iTraX) is an invaluable tool in SDDC. Coordinating medicinal chemistry design ideas, prioritization and tracking of synthesis progress and compound testing for multiple projects involving many collaborating partners in different continents would be almost unthinkable without it."
Primary funding for this project comes from the SGC, who received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The SDDC partnership provides expertise and funding to advance a portfolio of drug opportunities from validated targets. This work supports structure-guided medicinal chemistry, which designs and develops chemical compounds with the potential to become drugs after further research.
"We are delighted to announce the continued partnership with SDDC following more than a year of success in enabling effective collaboration between consortium members,” said Dr. Paul Faulder, CEO at Elixir Software. “Significant challenges across academic and research institutes engaged in the effective design of new medicines, includes the secure engagement with opinion and scientific work from globally distributed expertise and resource. iTraX is positioned to enhance the sharing of design ideas as a prerequisite to appropriate compound synthesis, which it also tracks. Through iTraX, we hope to facilitate more effective collaborative design and delivery of medicines against important diseases, using the expertise of research groups dissipated across different time zones.”
