Autonet’s Compliance Director battles the elements for Cancer Research UK
(PRWEB UK) 12 May 2015 -- The Isle of Wight Challenge is tough at the best of times, but this year’s event was made all the more difficult from the torrential weather that arrived during the night.
Autonet’s Director of Compliance, Jenny Devaney, took on this extraordinary feat of walking 67 miles around the Isle of Wight coastline on Saturday 2nd May; to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of colleague and good friend Sandra Gibson, who sadly passed away last year after a brave battle against cancer.
Jenny told us “Sandra worked in the insurance industry for many, many years and her amazing positive attitude never faltered with her favourite saying being 'onwards and upwards'. There were many times during this walk that I needed to remember this saying… and why I was doing it. Cancer has affected so many of my friends and family in different ways which is why I wanted to raise as much money as possible to help in finding a cure.”
Jenny, along with her friend Karen, really struggled to carry on walking and climbing various hills and clifftops when the weather took a turn for the worst, but they fought to keep going as they wanted to do this for Sandra. This year nearly 50% of entrants withdrew from the challenge prior to completion due to the difficult conditions.
Jenny has raised over £3,400 so far with the donations still flooding in. If you would like to donate please visit Jenny's JustGiving Page https://www.justgiving.com/Jenny-Devaney1
