IELTS boosts access to English language tests for UK visas
(PRWEB UK) 6 September 2015 -- IELTS is making it easier for people to access English language tests for UK visas and immigration.
Since April this year, most people who need to prove their English language skills to support an application for a British visa need to take a government-authorised 'SELT' (Secure English Language Test), and this must be taken under special testing conditions at a test centre which has been specifically approved for this purpose.
IELTS is one of only two providers of SELT tests, and the only one authorised to run tests worldwide, with a network of more than 113 permanent centres in over 50 countries specifically equipped to offer SELT tests, including 10 centres in the UK. These centres offer tests all year round, with test dates available every month.
In addition, IELTS runs more than 60 'pop up' centres in other locations to meet local demand.
Victoria Sellar, IELTS SELT Consortium Concession Manager explains "The IELTS partners have always managed the IELTS centre network dynamically to enable us to meet test takers' needs, and this is no different for the SELT tests. August is a busy month, so we have doubled the number of places at centres in key locations like Shanghai and Qatar and we'll be running tests in 24 countries across Africa".
Sellar adds "The locations for SELT tests are specified by the UK government, so it is not possible to offer tests everywhere where we have potential test takers, but we do everything possible to ensure that people can take IELTS or IELTS Life Skills within 28 days at the centre of their choice ."
