(PRWEB UK) 29 March 2016 -- Why is this when an electronic portfolio :- ·
costs 4 times less than a paper portfolio
engages young digital native learners
provides great interaction with employers
increases caseloads by 10%
reduces travel costs by 20%
And provides instant and accurate tracking and compliance dashboards for Ofsted, SFA and Awarding Organisation compliance.
With such a compelling reason to use electronic portfolios why are so many apprenticeship providers still not embracing this technology?
Fiona Hudson-Kelly, CEO of Smart assessor, believes that many of these training providers would like to use e-portfolio technologies but are wary about how to make the change. They are concerned about which suppliers to choose from the large number of products available, how will their assessors feel about having to use this sort of technology – will they resist it or embrace it?
How can they manage the cost? Will the costs spiral out of control? Will it be more work for them, will they have to key learner data into more than one system? Will their staff need special equipment such as tablets? Will the technology be suitable for all types of learners and environments from construction sites to care homes?
Will the data be secure? What happens if the e-portfolio supplier goes out of business?
With so many questions and concerns about making such a fundamental switch, Smart Assessor have created a simple 10 step plan to successful migrating from paper to technology portfolios:-
1. Prepare your Return on Investment business case
2.Talk to other training providers like you about who they use and get their feedback
3. Scope your brief, what features are absolutely essential for your business case?
4. Involve all of your stakeholders in viewing the technology against your brief
5. Shortlist your preferred e-portfolio providers and invite them to submit a proposal on how you can achieve your business case with their technology
6. Agree costs in advance so that you can budget for the whole year without any surprises
7. Look carefully at the training courses provided by your preferred supplier, what happens if new staff join you and need further training? Are these costs factored in? How comprehensive are the training courses and what materials are there to support blended learning?
8. 80% of all software features are never used, how can your provider help you get more out of the technology you are investing in?
9. How future proof is the technology, will this supplier continue to innovate to meet your needs in 5 years’ time? How robust is their technology roadmap and financial track record?
10. Finally – do they ‘get’ your business? How well did the technology supplier understand and interpret your individual needs or did you feel they just delivered a ‘standard’ product demonstration and proposal?
Smart Assessor are holding a number of online and offline events designed to help paper based portfolio colleges and training providers come into the world of e-portfolio.
