One of five Life Sciences companies to be crowned national winner, in five separate categories, the Medilink awards celebrate outstanding business achievements, international success and innovative breakthroughs across the Life Sciences and Healthcare Technology sectors.

The awards and gala dinner, which took place on the 26th April 2017, was held in partnership with the Med-Tech Innovation Expo at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

CCO Andrew Thelwell, receiving the award on behalf of the Sky Medical said, “Thank you Medilink and the sponsors for this prestigious award. In collecting this award I would like to recognise our NHS partners, who, on top of their full time jobs, and in a challenging environment, are willing to give-up additional time in pursuit of innovation and the improvement of patient care. It is to them that we all owe our sincere thanks."

Bernard Ross, CEO says “We place the highest priority on working in partnership with our NHS colleagues. To be recognised with this national award, after winning the regional Medilink North-West heat, is a great honour for both Sky Medical and our NHS partners. Sky Medical competed with 35 nominated organisations, all winners of the regional Medilink 2017 awards. The national winners were selected by an independent panel of judges.

About Sky Medical Technology

Sky Medical Technology is a UK based medical devices company that has developed a ground-breaking neuromuscular electrostimulation platform, OnPulse™. The company develops a range of products tailored to different medical applications, selling both direct, through partnerships or distributors in each clinical area. Clinical areas of interest include DVT (blood clot) prevention, reduction of swelling, wound healing, elite-sport recovery, and continence. The goal in each clinical area is to improve clinical outcomes and patient care whilst saving health system resources.

About the geko™ device

The size of a wrist-watch and worn at the knee, the geko™ device is a battery powered, disposable, neuromuscular electrostimulation device designed to increase blood flow in the veins of the leg to reduce the risk of DVT (as approved by NICE) and to prevent the build-up of pre and post-surgical swelling. The geko™ device, through gentle electrical impulses, stimulates the common peroneal nerve activating the calf and foot muscle pumps, increasing venous, arterial and microcirculatory blood flow. The increase in blood flow is equal to 60% of walking, without the patient having to move. The geko™ device has secured National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance recommending its use to the NHS for DVT prevention, and has FDA clearance for the USA. http://www.gekodevices.com
