A survey of 2,571 parents in the UK by Bobatoo has revealed they went on more than five family days out this summer, but only spent on average £100 - £300 in total

Parents overwhelmingly voted trips to the beach as the day out that offered the best value for money, along with local parks, the zoo and museums.

A new study by consumer finance website Bobatoo.co.uk has found that UK parents spent on average between £100 – £300 on days out with the kids this summer.

That is despite going on more than five days out this year.

The findings, revealed after a survey of 2,571 parents in the UK, suggest parents are more likely to look for value when planning family days out during the summer holidays.

Parents overwhelmingly voted trips to the beach as the day out that offered the best value for money, along with local parks, the zoo and museums.

The days out that offer the worst value for money were certain theme parks, the cinema and city breaks.

Despite preferring to save money this year, 46% of respondents said they planned to spend more on days out next summer.

The survey also found that dad’s spend more on days out than mum’s, and by far the biggest expenditure is entry costs to attractions like theme parks and the cinema.

Announcing the results of the survey, a spokeswoman for Bobatoo said:

“It is clear from these findings that, while families may be looking to save money and not overspend this year, they are optimistic for the future.

“With the current levels of financial uncertainty, it is no surprise parents opted to spend more time over the summer on domestic days out that offer value for money. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues into next year – when the economic impact of Brexit should be more apparent to UK consumers.”
