Suspicious husbands may want to keep an eye on their spouses during the upcoming Wimbledon Championships; a new study by the UK’s largest extramarital site, IllicitEncounters.com, has shown that an overwhelming amount of female adulteresses enjoy a spot of tennis (and not just the tonsil kind).
The site quizzed its database of 480,000 adulterers on which recreational activities they partake in. ‘Golf’ and ‘Rugby’ topped the male charts, but just over 40% of the female membership reported a keen interest in playing and watching tennis.
“Food and wine” and “Travelling” placed second and third in the women’s league respectively. Interestingly, “Christian and gospel music” was ranked as the least popular interest on the website for both men and women, despite the fact that over 68% of the site’s membership subscribe to a denomination of Christianity.

Sara Hartley, representative from the website, says tennis, which has long had a tradition of being played predominantly by the middle and upper-classes, is an appropriate interest for the Illicit demographic; “We have learnt, through research, that the majority of our members are high-earning, high-achieving, and living in more rural areas like Devon and Berkshire. In cities, gyms are so expensive and there is little space for those who wish to pin up a net. And despite the fact that tennis has undergone a bit of a rebrand in the last ten years, many would still consider it a ‘posh’ sort of sport. In context, we can see why our members, and cheaters overall, would rank tennis higher on their interests list, than the rest of the population.”
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) refused to comment on the findings.
IllicitEncounters.com has been running since 2003. To celebrate the beginning of this year’s Wimbledon, the site are running a competition for members to submit their best tennis-inspired profile pictures. The winner will receive a Fortnum and Mason hamper worth £150.
