UK motorists warned to watch their windows in summer heat

Post Office Car Insurance highlights extra care the car can need during long hot summers

London, UK (PRWeb UK) 10 July 2009 -- As summer is now upon us, Post Office Car Insurance is highlighting some of the extra care drivers should take to avoid unnecessary summer claims on car insurance policies.

Policyholders should also ensure that all car windows and sunroofs are closed before leaving the vehicle. Open windows and sunroofs provide easy access for opportunistic thieves to gain access to the vehicle and any contents that may be inside, and may car insurance policies will not cover theft which occurs due to the car insurance policy holder's negligence in this way. It is also important to keep any contents of the car out of sight, and for drivers to take handbags and other personal items with them when they leave the vehicle.

UK drivers should also ensure their car is in a good state of maintenance and had been regularly serviced. This should ensure that all parts of the car are working optimally - including air conditioning - and that any heat-related breakdowns can be avoided, minimalising any claims on car insurance to cover heat-inflicted damage. Special care should be taken to make sure the radiator has enough water to avoid overheating and that the engine has enough oil. Many will be using their air conditioning heavily, so car insurance policy holders should make sure the filters have been checked at a garage. Drivers should also make sure any passengers have enough water if they are travelling long distances in the sun, as both air conditioning and the sunlight through the car windows can contribute to dehydration.

Post Office Car Insurance suggests that by taking just a few simple steps, car insurance policyholders should be able to enjoy the sun with their vehicle.
