A top ten multinational pharmaceutical company expanding aggressively into BRICK markets shifted investment to focus on developing relationships with KOLs and other stakeholders. Structured identification and mapping uncovered many of these stakeholders. Looking to the next step - how to engage thisrobust pool to build momentum for a new product launch in China and Korea.
Heartbeat Experts worked with this client to build an online community, sponsored by the client. The approach was to offer stakeholders a chance to work with their peers and the life sciences company without the limitation of geography, working hours and other commitments. Such an engagement offers stakeholders a platform to work together but also to get new client data, discuss scientific issues in the disease area, and collaborate on research that benefited the client’s launch and market access. Leading KOLs were selected as chairmen who give their name behind the invitations to access a password-protected, exclusive community. This was unique in these markets; no one had built a stakeholder-driven community that excluded entry to the top stakeholders in these markets for this disease. A key element to the success of the community was the concierge services provided by Heartbeat. Stakeholders were recruited,trained, and consistently reminded of site activities. Unlike other sites where they are set up and stakeholders are left to their own will to participate, our services team for China and Korea knew we need to call each participant 3-5 times to ensure they participate in a key online activity. This not only gets the activities done, but shows a more serviced-oriented approach by the client towards their most important stakeholders.
Ninety-percent of the invited stakeholders participated in the community. This number proves that stakeholders in emerging market scan and will participate in online communities and find value from such an engagement. The perception of the client improved dramatically due to their sponsorship of the platform. Through events where new product data was shared by leading KOLs, surveys showed that stakeholder perceptions of client science changed over the course of the community.For the stakeholders themselves, they found a way to connect with new and old colleagues in a simple manner that fit their busy schedules.
