SmartDebit responds to Epping Forest Council introducing cashless parking scheme

Motorists living and working in and around Epping Forest are now able to pay for their parking via cashless electronic payment. The new scheme has been introduced in Epping, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Ongar and Waltham Abbey and allows motorists to pay securely in a paperless and cashless way by phone or online. There is also the possibility to download an associated smartphone app which reminds the user of when permitted time is close to running out in the hope of reducing the amount of parking fines received by motorists in the area. New users are required to register once on initial use by providing their card details, mobile number and car registration number.

Gary Weller, Safer, Greener and Highways portfolio holder councillor explained, “With MiPermit offering quick, easy and secure payment for parking in the council’s car parks we hope even more residents, workers and visitors across the district will sign up.”

The move is one of many council’s following suit to move away from cash and more towards the use of electronic and online payments.
