Mercedes A45 AMG has arrived at Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire
Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UK (PRWEB UK) 1 July 2013 -- Before we get to what this impressive 4 wheel drive can do (and it can do some pretty amazing things), let’s take a minute to talk about the interior and exterior. The exterior gives you just a hint about what lies ahead. There’s the distinctive, aggressive AMG styling effects and 18” alloy wheels. You almost have to do a double take and remind yourself that this is bred from the entry level Mercedes A Class line. The interior projects a sporty feel, with the AMG signature touches including red interior piping, AMG branding on the seats, a black carbon facia, and that sporty steering wheel. We’re ready to go.
This particular vehicle has an optional sports system that projects a deeper, throatier sound once it is ignited. Rather then gently embrace this vehicle, we decide to see what it can do flat out. That is our first “wow”. Mercedes say this particular car can go from 0-62 in 4.6 seconds, and as the forces push us back in our seats it is reaching every bit of that acceleration. It feels surprisingly “light” yet never blinks as we fly through the gears.
At this point there are two things that have taken our breath. First is the shear acceleration of the A 45 AMG. The second is our surprise of just what this 2.0-litre 4cyl turbo can do. We were told that at 178bhp per litre the Mercedes A 45 AMG has more power per litre than any other production car on the planet. Any doubt of that leaves our mind as we proceed through a series of turns. The the steering is responsive and tight. This is clearly a car that respects the driver’s wishes.
We never come close to reaching its stated top speed of 155mph, but there is no doubt that this vehicle can reach it. As we test its ability to brake, we welcome AMG’s attention to creating a more robust braking system that responds to its surprising power. It brakes straight, steady and without a hint of flutter.
It appears that the AMG engineers have managed to limit the vehicles' weight while getting maximum power per litre from an amazingly modest engine size. It is one thing to read reviews and even see videos of this quick as a rabbit vehicle in action. It is quite another to get behind the wheel and experience it.
Prior to getting behind the wheel any thought of a Mercedes A45 AMG for sale would have, quite frankly, been of limited interest. After feeling its raw but controlled power, hearing its pulsing engine, and experiencing its responsiveness through turns, we can understand all the excitement that seems to be building around this well-engineered vehicle. We can simply say, wow.
